NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF DYNAMIC ICE ACTION ON CONICAL STRUCTURE

  • Using explicit dynamic analysis software LS-DYNA, the paper implements the numerical simulations of bending failure processes between sea ice and conical structures. The simulated breaking length and ice force distributions are consistent with those of full scale experiments. Ice force reaches its maximum value when the circumferential crack appears in the bottom of ice sheet. By analyzing the simulation results, it is found that the breaking length, ice force and responses of platform are not sensitive to the variations of ice velocity. The frequency of ice breaking increases with the increasing of ice velocity.
