EXPLORATION OF OPTIMAL SECTION OF XINJIANG APRICOT STONE CRACKING

  • The shape of an apricot kernal is defined and the analysis of its structure is performed. It is found that the relationship among the length, width and height of an apricot kernal is not linear. An apricot kernal can be approximated by a shell which is symmetrical about its transverse, upright and vertical elliptical sections. An apricot kernal shell is studied as a shell with an unusual shape subject to consistant and uniformly distributed cracking pressures. Based on these assumptions, its effective stress and vulnerable section is analyzed. Radius of gyration is introduced into the formula of bending moment. It is concluded by statistics that the optimal section for apricot kernal cracking is the maximum stress section, which has the minimum radius of gyration in the oval section.
