STUDY ON THE QUASI-STATIC MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF CELLULAR METAL USING VORONOI TESSELLATION

  • The mechanical properties of ‘real’ cellular metallic materials under the quasi-static loads are investigated in this paper using of the 2D Voronoi random models. Three kinds of Voronoi random models are modeled as follows: Type Ⅰ with different irregular degrees, TypeII with different inhomogeneous degrees but keeping the same relative density, and Type III with the imperfections of configuration but keeping the same relative density. These three Voronoi random models are analyzed using the finite element method. The analyses results show that the stress-strain curves of different irregular degrees are different from those of honeycomb cellular materials and the elastic modului of the former are bigger than those of the latter. With the inhomogeneous degrees increasing, the elastic modului and Plateau stresses increase firstly and then decrease. With the deletion percentage ratios of cell walls increasing, the elastic modului and Plateau stresses decrease gradually.
