UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF FROZEN SALINE SILTY CLAY

  • A series of uniaxial compressive strength tests were conducted on frozen saline silty clay. The test results show that: within the test range condition, the compressive strength decreases linearly with increasing salt content and descending test negative temperature. For a certain strain rate, the yielding strength is closely related to the compressive strength with the variation of temperature and salinity. The concept of relative temperature is proposed, and a linear relationship between the relative temperature and the compressive strength at different test temperature and salinity is presented. The relative temperature can be used to link the mechanical properties of non-saline soil with those of saline soil.
