EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HYSTERETIC BEHAVIOR OF PR STEEL FRAME WITH RC INFILL WALLS WITH TOP-AND SEAT-ANGLE WITH DOUBLE WEB-ANGLE CONNECTIONS

  • The purpose of this study was to experimentally investigate the behavior of a partially-restrained steel frame with RC walls with top-and seat-angle with double web-angle connections (PSRCW) under cyclic lateral loads. A total of six 1/3 scaled one bay, and two story test specimens were built and tested. The hysteretic behavior, stiffness degradation, plastic deformation capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity, force transmission and failure modes were analyzed in detail. The results indicate that PSRCW shows large stiffness and lateral strength, while it shows moderate energy dissipation capacity. At the design load level, the shear connected connected with steel beam resist about 80% of the total lateral load, and steel frame resists approximately 70% of the overturning moment. Shear connectors subjected to combined cyclic shear and tension forces would induce low cyclic fatigue; the performance improvement of shear connectors would increase the ductility of PSRCW.
