THE MODEL ANALYSIS OF STRAIN TRANSFER IN THE APPLICATION OF PIEZOELECTRIC ACTUATORS

  • The structure of piezoelectric materials has been more and more popularly used in aviation and aerospace industry, the study for the strain transfer between piezoelectric actuators and a host structure is increasingly important. Advantages and disadvantages in the models of strain transfer—Uniform Strain Model and Bernoulli-Euler Model were firstly discussed; secondly the finite thickness of the bonding layers was taken into account in a Bernoulli-Euler Model, focusing on the wing-like model analysis due to the application of piezoelectric actuators in aviation and aerospace industry, and the strain transfer formulation along the thickness of the structure was attained; finally the range of bonding layers elasticity modulus and thickness for the formulation was given by the finite element method. The result demonstrated the efficiency of the formulation, and the application of the Bernoulli-Euler Model was much closer to the actual case, at the same time the reasonable base was provided for the analysis of strain distribution in a smart structure during an actual application.
