STUDY ON THE CROSSWIND ENVIRONMENT AROUND THE TOWER AND DECK OF SEA-CROSSING BRIDGE BY CFD

  • The crosswind environment of a Sea-Crossing Bridge’s deck can influence the safety and comfort of vehicles. Especially around the tower, the crosswind environment above the deck is more complex and turbulent. By using the numerical wind technology and large eddy simulation to solve turbulence, the crosswind environment around the tower is simulated under three cases, which are the deck without subsidiary structures, the deck with railings only, and the deck with railings and wind barriers. The results of simulation reveal that the distribution of wind velocity has significant discount around the tower, which may make a vehicle produce more significant side-slip when it runs through the bridge tower. Only with the railings, the distribution of wind velocity may be not very reasonable around the region higher from the deck. But through the rational layout of wind barriers, the discount of wind velocity around the tower is more comfortable, the turbulent wind is more slowly, and the safety of vehicle is more benefited.
