BLAST RESPONSE OF CFRP-REINFORCED CONCRETE MASONRY WALL AGAINST SMALL STAND-OFF DISTANCE EXPLOSIVE CHARGE

  • The experimental results of one-way concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) against small stand-off distance explosive charges are presented. And the failure mechanisms of CMU walls as well as the CFRP were also investigated. Three CMU walls without CFRP reinforcement and two CMU walls reinforced with CFRP reinforcement were tested by field blasting. These experimental results indicated that localized damage and integral damage occurred at the same time when the CMU wall subjected to small stand-off distance explosive charge. And the CFRP reinforcement could reduce both localized and integral damage to CMU wall effectively. The reasonable pattern and amount of CFRP laminates were also required to effectively reduce both localized and integral damage to CMU wall.
