EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON AXIAL COMPRESSION PERFORMANCE OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMN RETROFITTED BY PRESTRESSED STEEL STRIP

  • Sixteen reinforced column specimens and two contrast specimens were tested under axial compression, and the strip spacing as well as the number of layers on the bearing capacity and deformation capacity were studied. The test results show that the reinforced specimens whose axial bearing capacity and deformation capacity improved with the improvement of prestressed steel strip. Under the same strip spacing conditions, the bearing capacity and deformation capacity improved greatly with the increase of strip layers. Under the same strip layers conditions, the bearing capacity and deformation capacity improved greatly with the decrease of strip spacing. The peak load and ultimate displacement of a plain concrete column retrofitted by prestressed steel strip are improved up to 130% and 1315%, and the peak load and ultimate displacement of a reinforced concrete column retrofitted by prestressed steel strip are improved up to 65% and 274%, respectively.
