Experimental study and numerical analysis on aseismic performance of steel double-beams-column interiorjoints in traditional style building

  • Four specimen models in 1/2 scale of steel double-beams-column interior joints of a traditional style building were designed and fabricated for a low cyclic reversed loading test. The failure mode, hysteretic performance, and ductility of the joints were obtained from the experiment. It is shown that there are 3 small core areas, namely an upper core area, a lower core area and a middle short column, appeared in the steel double-beams-column in the traditional style building during loading. The failure mode of the doublebeams-column joints is the shear failure when they are subjected to axial load, bending moment and shear force in the core area. The maximum deformation firstly occurred in the lower core area, secondly in the middle short column. Based on the experiment, the nonlinear numerical simulation was conducted using the ABAQUS software. The computational results such as the failure modes, stress distributions and hysteretic loops are in a good agreement with the experimental ones.
