NONLINEAR SEISMIC RESPONSE ANALYSIS OF TWO ADJACENT STRUCTURES CONNECTED USING THE MAXWELL MODEL

  • Nonlinear seismic response analysis was performed on two adjacent high-rise reinforced concrete structures, which are connected using the Maxwell model, under large earthquakes. The constitutive model of the adjacent structures is modeled using the three-line stiffness degradation model. The motion equations of the adjacent connected structures are derived. The applicability of the theoretical expression of Maxwell damper optimum parameters and the effect of collisions on the seismic response of adjacent structures have been investigated. This paper proposes different optimization parameters for dampers under different excitations. The results show that, in order to control the seismic response of the adjacent structures, they need to be connected with dampers which have stronger damping energy dissipation when entering the nonlinear stage; even with a smaller seismic joint, the possibility of collision is still small for the adjacent structures under strong earthquakes when connected with control devices.
