EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON SHEAR BEHAVIOR OF STEEL PLATE-CONCRETE COMPOSITE SLABS WITH SMALL SHEAR SPAN RATIO

  • Experiments studying shear behavior were conducted on two simply-supported steel-concrete composite slab specimens with small shear-span ratios subjected to concentrated load to conduct preliminary analyses on the shearing performance of this kind of composite slab. The ultimate bearing capacity, deformation, shear failure mode, and crack development of the composite slabs are obtained through comparison of the specimens with different steel plate thicknesses. The experiment results show that diagonal-compression is the ultimate failure mode of steel-concrete composite slabs with small shear-span ratios. Steel plates can achieve composite action with the concrete through shear connectors, so accordingly the section strain distribution basically accords with the plane section assumption. The shearing capacity of the concrete slabs is increased significantly through the composite effect of steel plates, and furthermore the overall ductility is improved. In the tests, steel plates in steel plate-concrete composite slabs bear over 50% of the total shear.
