RESEARCH OF GUIDED WAVES IN LAYERED STRUCTURES BASED ON SAFE

  • As previous SAFE models for layered structures have a weaknesses in the calculation of guided wave dispersions, an SAFE method combined with mechanical properties of Lamb waves and SH waves is studied. The SAFE model considers the characteristics of Lamb waves and SH waves based on an SAFE principle. Compared with previous SAFE models, the SAFE model can distinguish between Lamb waves and SH waves in layered structures. The SAFE model greatly reduces the matrix orders in calculation, which improves the computational efficiency. The cut-off frequencies of Lamb waves and SH waves in a 45# steel plate are calculated utilizing the SAFE model and compared with the analytic results, which examines the accuracy of an SAFE model. The examples of Lamb waves and SH waves propagating in an Al-Ti-Fe board and an Al-Epoxy-Al board are analyzed. The results can be a reference to research the propagation of Lamb waves and SH waves in layered structures.
