FINITE ELEMENT MODEL UPDATING OF A FRAMED STRUCTURE WITH BOLTED JOINTS

  • The dynamic characteristic analysis and response prediction of a three-layer framed structure with bolted joints are performed through combined techniques of structural finite element modeling and simulation, as well as modal test and model updating. The related corresponding problems during the process are also discussed. First, three types of models such as a solid finite element model, a plate-beam finite element model and a 3-DOF lumped mass model are constructed respectively and the corresponding normal modes are calculated. Then, modal test is conducted on a practical structure. Afterwards, the models are updated using the tested modal data so that the updated models can represent the dynamic behavior of the practical structure accurately. Finally, a series of shock/free-decay tests are carried out on the structure to validate the model. Results show that the updated models are satisfactory to predict the actual acceleration responses.
