BEHAVIOR OF RC COLUMNS CONFINED BY PRESTRESSED STEEL JACKETS UNDER AXIAL LOADING

  • Numerical simulation and static loading test were carried out to investigate the compress resistant behavior of the RC columns confined by Prestressed Steel Jackets (PSJ), and the transfer mechanism between PSJ and RC columns was analyzed. The results show that, with the augment of PSJ prestressing level, the maximum vertical crack width of confined columns decreases, and the axial compression bearing capacity of confined columns increases. However, the axial deformability of confined columns may be reduced at the same time. Axial compression performance of confined columns is enhanced as PSJ configuration parameter increases, which is followed by improved column failure mode. PSJ tensile strain increments lag behind the stirrup tensile strain due to the gap between PSJ and the outer surface of the RC columns.
