Abstract:
To investigate the effect of desert sand-doped concrete on the mechanical properties of the members in axial compression, stocky column specimens of reinforced concrete (RC), concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) and reinforced concrete-filled steel tubular (RCFST) with two strength classes of desert sand-doped concrete were fabricated on the basis of the same steel content. The damage mode, peak load, mechanical properties and ductility were compared and analyzed. And the experimental data were used to verify again whether the RCFST bearing capacity is equal to the superposition of CFST and longitudinal reinforcement strength. The results show that: the mechanical properties of RC, CFST and RCFST stocky columns mixed with desert sand are similar to those of ordinary concrete specimens in axial compression, and the incorporation of desert sand has little effect on the mechanical properties of the members; the peak loads and ductility of CFST and RCFST are similar at the same steel content rate; the current code equations can calculate the axial compression load capacity of CFST and RCFST of concrete mixed with desert sand, and the RCFST load capacity; and the superimposed load capacity of CFST and longitudinal reinforcement strength can be evaluated.
