Abstract:
Web girders of hull structures are often damaged due to in-plane loads during ship collision and grounding accidents. In this paper, quasi-static impact tests and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the structural deformation mechanisms of web girders subjected to in-plane loads. A new deformation model for web girders subjected to in-plane loads was proposed in accordance with the new features discovered in tests and simulation analyses. Based on the new model, the analytical formulae for energy dissipation, instantaneous force and mean resistance of web girders were obtained in the light of the plastic analysis. Finally, the new analytic method was verified by the results of model tests. It is expected that the proposed analytical method can serve as a guidance to the preliminary structural design and assessment for ship crashworthiness.
